Barn Owl In Folklore
Beautiful, though they are, the barn owl’s call is far from pretty. A horrific shriek more suited to a zombie film, or the sound of a wailing old hag in the dead of night! It is thought that this fearsome sound gave birth to the Irish tale of the Banshee – a supernatural scary fairy, who foretells a violent death in the family if heard.
