Here is an original watercolour painting of a Snipe (Gallinago gallinago). Inspired by an encounter I had on a snowy day back in 2021, this bird stuck out like a sore thumb against the snowy backdrop and luckily I had my camera to hand! Painted on A3 size handmade cotton rag paper, 640gsm.

This painting will be shipped wrapped and backed on to hardboard for protection in transit.

Snipe In Folklore

I could not find many folklore facts surrounding the snipe, however I discovered that a practical joke known as ‘the snipe-hunt’ exists in America amongst outdoors folk. Inexperienced folk are deemed with the task of catching the imaginary bird or animal in a most ridiculous way. Since the supposed snipe doesn’t exist, the hunt never succeeds, no matter how foolishly the newcomer acts!
