‘Even in the darkest of times’
EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF TIMES
There is always hope oil on 30cm Panel, 2020 – Krysten Newby
This particular painting was created during the 2020 Covid19 pandemic to illustrate the fact that there is ALWAYS hope, in the darkest of places. You just have to open your heart up to find it.
Whilst this has been a terrible year for many, I feel that during those first few weeks nature really had a chance to enjoy the peace and quiet from humanity…just for a little while and was given a chance to flourish. I LOVED seeing things overgrown, wild patches everywhere, quiet roads, no planes in the sky, less pollution! These are the positives I took from the pandemic, and there are ALWAYS positives in every situation.
Original Raven Painting – ‘The Messengers’
'The Messengers'
Odin’s Ravens: Oil on 12×16″ Canvas Panel
I created this piece of wildlife art as a result of feeling hugely inspired and captivated by Norse culture after watching ‘Vikings’ recently.
Corvids have always been my favourite group of birds, purely for their intellectual ability and the ‘otherworldly’ sense about them.
Odin was a Norse god of wisdom and Huginn and Muninn (meaning thought and memory) were his two accompanying Ravens. They were said to travel the world and bring back valuable information to him.
This is a one off original piece of artwork. If you are interested in purchasing this piece, please visit the listing on my Etsy shop by clicking the button below, thanks!
Woodlark Study
Woodlark Study
Gouache study of a Breckland speciality.
Shortly before the lockdown was announced due to Covid-19, I went for a ramble in the Brecks with my other half. We are so fortunate to see many pairs of this gorgeous, un-common lark.
I’m looking back on all of my reference photos I’ve taken in the recent past and doing some little gouache studies of them.
I plan on making these in to greeting cards at some point – I think they’d fit very well amongst some wildlife reserve gift shops, especially places like Weeting Heath!
The first image is very much my ‘Covid-19 Survival Kit’ throughout lockdown. I love being able to see and watch the birds from my window, drink tea and paint – heaven!
Solace – Oil on Panel
'Solace'
Oils on 6mm x 30cm Panel Barn Owl Painting
I actually started this painting before the Covid-19 crisis started.
I wanted to portray how we’ve turned our natural world upside-down and our wildlife is suffering as a result.
Now this painting has a different meaning. Now our world as we know it is upside-down and many are turning to nature and wildlife for escapism and solace.
This has always been the case for me as nature has always been my solace on dark days. But now I think many more will see and appreciate our wildlife during these strange times, and hopefully look after it a little more once all of this is over.
Pumpkin Patch
'Pumpkin patch'
Gouache on museum board, 16 x 11″, Krysten Newby 2019
I have had a run of painting birds, which are my favourite subject, so I decided to switch it up a little.
Instead of carving a pumpkin for Halloween this year, I painted one instead! With an inquisitive Red Fox.
